Haruhi Suzumiya R1 DVDs - TOO MUCH GOODIES INSIDE!

Collector's Arbox

The Adventures of the ASOS Brigade: Episode 005 was the best episode for a number of reasons. Well, besides the fact that it was out of order, parodied the Star Wars intros, a whopping 12 minutes, 23 seconds long, Bunny Girl Mikuru and Witch Yuki using Mikuru Beam and magic and firearms (with music from Asahina Mikuru no Bouken Episode 00), we now know 3 months in advance all the goodies included with the Limited Edition DVDs. Now, on with the extras inside…

Firstly, I gotta say, that is some box. A lot of greatly drawn images by KyoAni (personally always loved the ROCK in THE LIFE one), and it holds all the extras along with Volume 1.

Volume 3

Volume 4
Haruhi no Tsumeawase CD + pillow case

It is just me, or are they spoiling the fudge out of these special editions? Well, not that I certainly don’t mind at all. In fact, I don’t care if I do need to pay that much since it’s totally worth it. I mean, pillow cases? Dakimakura, you serious? Well besides those, I’ve always wanted the LE Japanese DVDs. Those beautiful art from Noizi Ito herself, and the bonus BGM discs included. Now, the most interesting extras from the specials are the bonus DVDs with the episodes in Kyon order. I guess for people that want to see anachronic turn of events will be reduced (by which I mean to say, upgraded) to getting the SE anyways. Strange move, but eh, I don’t mind, but I’m sure glad the DVDs are in chronological order in the first place, similar to the Japanese ones.

I can say for sure that this is probably the hugest special edition set I’ve ever seen.

Well, well. Looks as if I’ll be out of a lot of money in the future at $60-65 a pop lol

It doesn’t matter how much, I’m definately getting this no matter what XD

Nice to know the Japanese got screwed as horribly as we do, so far as the order of episodes on DVD - with the Special Edition over here at least having the original (Kyon) broadcast edition. Time to see if they’re going to dump the “_Mikuru” and “_Yuki” folders onto the DVDs as well.

Still, as far as special editions go, Bandai’s tended to do alright with their “Collectors” sets - it’s not just a pencil board or something, but stuff like OST CD’s (the GITS:SAC collectors editions), tin boxes, t-shirts, etc. Now if only they could be convinced to keep some of the Japanese extras on there (the Aya Hirano stuff, the ‘hidden’ picture folders)…

hmm yeah I don’t want to watch these things in Chronilogical order.. I personally feel it’d come out unbalanced.

But it’s not like I really need extra DVDs to manually watch them out of order either :P

Any release date on these anyhow?

Crayotic Rockwell: “Any release date on these anyhow?”

For vol 1 its May 29th I think, either that or 24th. Don’t think the other dates have been announced yet.

Yep, it’s the 29th. Hopefully DVD releases will be monthly. I’d hate to wait every two to four months a release.

Though it is a crapload of money for a dvd when you know, we can get them anytime, I actually kinda want that iron on and everything else seems intersting. I’ll consier it greatly.

Apparently the only reason there’s additional DVDs with the broadcast order on the SE editions at all is because Bandai knew a lot, if not most, of the Haruhi fans on this side of the Pacific preferred the show in broadcast order and convinced KadoUSA to let them put it on in some way. KadoUSA was dead-set on chronological order only for some reason.

According to ASOS Brigade’s site, “due to pre-existing contractual obligations, the regular edition MUST contain the R2 DVD ordering of episodes. This was set in stone, there were no exceptions.

After deeply intense negotiations to try and please the existing fan-base, we are able to release a Special Bonus DVD in the TV Broadcast order as an extra. We are deeply grateful to the wonderful people at Kadokawa Pictures for their hard work and allowing this special feature for North American audience.”
