Spring 2007 Series Spotlight: El Cazador de la Bruja

Production Company: Bee Train
Genres: Action, Girls-with-guns, Adventure, Drama, Mystery
Official Site: エル・カザド
Targeted Release Date: April 2007
As a big Bee Train fan this is one of the spring anime that I’m really looking forward to. For the uninformed, Bee Train’s resume would include titles such as Madlax, Noir, and the .hack anime franchise. Also, this is director Mashimo Koichi’s third and final installment in his Girls-with-guns genre.
Another huge plus for this series will be Kajiura Yuki, who will be handling the music. She has never disappointed with her music compositions in my opinion (she has also done music compositions for Noir and Madlax). Character design is being handled by Kikuchi Yoko (character designer for Noir and Kimi ga Nozomu Eien). And may I say that the character designs of the two female leads are very nicely done.
Here’s a synopsis of the story from ANN:
Ellis, a young girl suspected of murdering a prominent physicist Heinrich Schneider, is on the run from an underground society called “Hunters” when she is tracked down by the bounty hunter Nadi in a small Mexican town. However, instead of turning her in, Nadi impulsively decides to help her and the two girls embark on a journey to Ellis’ hometown, where they plan on finding clues about her past. From there, they travel south to search for the mysterious Gemstone of the Inca Rose, the “Eternal City” of Wiñay Marka, and Ellis’ own obscure destiny.
A second synopsis translated from the official site by Toua:
In the underground world, an enourmous reward was placed on the head of a girl named Ellis who’s a suspect of murdering a physicist Heinz Schneider.Coincidentally, Ellis gets saved from other bounty hunters by a bounty hunter named Nadi who finds her in a country town in Mexico. She escapes southwards after learning the truth of the matter. She expects to find a place there called Hometown where she was supposedly born. Ellis is convinced that if she goes there she can figure out her unknown past. Her only leads through her fate are the Inca rose gemstone and a mysterious word Wiñay Marka (ウイニャイマルカ – possible transliteration). Nadi volunteers to become her guide even though she was originally chasing her.
Thus the journey of a girl with a prize on her head and a strange bounty hunter will begin.
Personally, I’m already sold on the anime because of the names behind it and the story descriptions released thus far. I personally can’t wait until April to see its debut and blog it!

Hmm, interesting premise, and what really surprise me is the spanish title…I am from latin america and this is the first time I heard of a japanese anime with an spanish title….of course, not the first time japanese uses spanish culture in anime, but it is good to see an anime with a title like this….cant wait to watch it.
Of course I can be wrong and maybe there are other japanese anime series with spanish titles so just correct me if I am wrong..:)
I like the character design but I think I’ll give this series a pass because of the plot. I don’t really like overly serious plot lines in anime, I guess it bores me. Just like Monster. I know allot of people like it and I know it was quite popular. But the storyline didn’t appeal to me.
What’s with the Popularity thing? Seriously, that’s not necessary.
Girls-with-guns doesn’t even sound like a genre, more like one of the themes involved.
“Girls-with-guns” is a genre the director (Mashimo Koichi) coined when he made the first title in the trilogy, Noir.
I am definitely looking forward to this one. Though I never saw most of Madlax.
You know….it seems that Madlax, Noir and now this all share sickeningly similar plots…
Well it is a trilogy.
I am definitely looking forward to this series since it actually will match what I would like to blog. If it is just as good as Noir, I am having this series as keepers for sure ^ ^
We share the same sentiments then Impz. This baby’s on my must-watch/blog list regardless of whatever I’m doing at the time.
[...] So, this is one of my highlights for the season, although there are a lot more coming like Idol Master Xenoglossia, Claymore (which does look extremely interesting as well actually) and El Cazador to look forward to as well. Hopefully, this new season can bring in some newer better anime XD Bookmark to: [...]
[...] This one really shouldn’t be a surprise as I have even covered it before with its very own entry not too long ago. With a legacy such as Noir and Madlax and the director Mashimo Koichi behind it, this show is already shaping up to impress. I’m looking forward to the themes used throughout the story and the music that will be composed by none other than Kajiura Yuki. Also, the OP and ED are being performed by two of my favorite groups, savage genius and FictionJunction YUUKA respectively. God, I can’t wait. [...]
