Ayakashi Ayashi Ep. 5

Impressions/Thoughts:
Yuki yet again amazes the audience with his performances. And with a weapon made out of his own name. It’s an unorthodox weapon but at least it took the form of an axe. This episode focuses mainly on the accusations brought forth of Yuki being a murderer. By the way, I found the whole thing about samurais being able to kill lower class people and apologizing afterwards (this all occurred in the Edo period) very interesting. Of course there was a protocol to the act but still I find it interesting how one could’ve been killed for merely disrespecting a samurai (makes me wonder if stepping on their foot would’ve brought such actions).

Anyways, back to the episode Yuki is shown speaking with the guy only he can see, Kumoshichi. I’m not sure if Yuki is alright in the head or not but this person seems real enough as he does initiate conversations himself. But then we’re thrown a twist, even Atl (the girl that Yuki saved) can see Kumoshichi. Just what is this ability she has? Maybe she’s an exorcist? Back to Yuki, it seems as if the person he killed was none other than Kumo. Though I have to say it sucks that he both doesn’t seem to remember killing him and that the others couldn’t see Kumo. I wouldn’t blame them if they thought he was crazy for a while. Anyways, we’re treated to a nice flashback of when Yuki and Kumo were buddies in the past. I found their meeting pretty hilarious, with them beating the hell out of each other. I found the flashback to be quite informative as well. Yuki in the past was quite the risk-taker (as a result of him being afraid of some day being sent back to “that” world) and had certain moments of not being himself (for example, when he tried to force himself on o-Shino). Of course doing that to o-Shino eventually pissed Kumo off and a fight was initiated between the two. Even after sabotaging Yuki’s sword, however, Kumo still lost and died as a result. So in the end Yuki finally remembers what happened and the episode ends with Atl arriving at the scene at which Kumo died, and she and Yuki witness Kumo appearing. Is there going to be a showdown of some sort?
