Kekkaishi Ep. 1&2

Kekkaishi really took me by surprised. I saw an entry about it some weeks ago before there were any subs for it and thought it looked pretty good but never gave it much thought after thinking that. Then after a while I saw the two main characters, Yoshimori and Tokine, and was a bit more interested. Then after seeing the concept of the series, I immediately downloaded the sub that was released not too long ago but Yoroshiku.

After watching the first two episodes, I was astounded. The animation is gorgeous, the music enthralling, the characters leagues beyond interesting and the entire concept of how Ayakashi were faught and captured was just brilliant. Already I can see some tension between Yoshimori and Tokine five years later as well. It’s not stated explicitly, but as a fellow guy I’m pretty sure Yoshimori is in love with Tokine but at the current time can’t do anything about it because of the current status of their relationship (which is something of a rivalry even moreso than when they were younger). Tokine, despite being mean to him, has some sort of feelings for Yoshimori which she displayed at the end of episode two with her blush and by giving him an item to heal his wounds.
Although I’ve only seen the first two episodes, this series already became one of my favorites for the season and for the year. I must have more Kekkaishi and Yoshi/Tokine!

The Run-down:
- The main characters, Yoshimori and Tokine, are kekkaishi. They are warriors that battle and capture Ayakashi.
- When they were younger, they were quite close but in the present they’ve grown apart because of their feuding families and apparent rivalry.
- Tokine protected Yoshimori against an attack from an Ayakashi five years prior to the present. She still has the scars from the wound in the past.
- Yoshimori cares a great deal for Tokine. Tokine seemingly dislikes Yoshimori but shows small hints of caring for his well-being in the present.
