D.Gray-man Ep. 02

The episode begins with Allen arriving at the Black Order headquarters after climbing up a mountain. Upon his arrival he’s inspected by the Gate Keeper and is immediately suspected to be an Akuma. Enter Kanda who’s dispatched to deal with the problem. He immediately activates Mugen, his anti-Akuma weapon, and attacks Allen who in turn defends himself with his arm. The misunderstanding is quickly dissolved and the scuffle between the two broken up by Linali, who knocks Kanda in the head with her clipboard.

After entering the complex, Linali takes Allen on a tour of the Black Order while telling him about how it is the home of most of the Exorcists and that some don’t bother to return. Allen quickly associates his master, General Cross, with that grouping and instantly enters a flashback where he was made an Exorcist by his master and knocked out cold only to awaken to meet his master long gone. Linali then escorts Allen to her brother, Komui, who inspects and then heals Allen’s wound that he incurred in the battle prior to entering the exorcist home. Allen is then taken to be evaluated by Hebraska who measures his Innocence compatibility. An explanation on what Innocence is and a short history on where it derived from is given by Komui in detail following Allen’s evaluation. Allen then is shown in his room resting and says the name “Mana” as he is observing a painting on his wall.
Preview:

Next week will be the first mission for Allen and Kanda as they travel to Mater (that’ s in Italy for those who don’t know). There they are to acquire an Innocence before the Akuma and the Earl, thus promising us an action-filled episode.
Impressions:
Although it wasn’t that much of an action-oriented episode, I loved it all. I couldn’t take my eyes off of Linali and her voice matches her character so perfectly. The same goes for Kanda and Komui I might add. I do find it interesting however that they chose to skip over an important chapter that occured before this one but I figured they’re saving it for future use, most likely a flashback of some sort. Overall, it was a great episode but next week’s episode will be much better with the missions starting.
